Due to so many students not mastering the skill (adding and subtracting of fractions and mixed numbers), the lesson plans and activities have changed a bit this week. We have been working in class on word problems that incorporate fractions and mixed numbers. These problem solving activities along with several strategies that your student has learned these past few days will help conquer the state test. With that being said here are the new and improved lessons for the following weeks:
Wednesday 10/9 – Quiz over adding and subtracting fractions in a word problem setting. Students will begin practicing ratios. HOMEWORK: 7.1 EXPLORING RATIOS
Thursday 10/10 – Simplifying ratios and unit rate (notes and practice) HOMEWORK: “WHY DID THE WRITER”
Friday 10/11 – Computer activities involving fractions, unit rate, and ratios NO HOMEWORK
Monday 10/14- Wednesday 10/16 Students will work on a project in class that compares grocery store circulars to: determine unit cost, compare prices on whole items, and discover which store(s) has the better deal and by how much. Computers will be used to locate these circulars. There will be daily homework assignments: Monday – Rewrite a recipe Tuesday – Order of Operations Wednesday – Fractions and Ratios
Thursday 10/17 – Quiz over ratios and rates. Students will begin writing and modeling decimals and place value. HOMEWORK: “HOW CAN YOU PREVENT”
Friday 10/18 – Comparing and ordering decimals activities and notes. HOMEWORK: P.24 and “WHAT DO GORILLAS EAT”
