Lessons and Activities for 10/28 – 11/1

Monday 10/28 Students will learn to multiply decimals. Notes and Examples HOMEWORK: Multiplying Decimals

Tuesday 10/29 Math BINGO on decimals, then Students will work in groups to solve word problems involving multiplying decimals. HOMEWORK: WP 1-8

Wednesday 10/30 . Students will take notes over dividing decimals and practice in groups. HOMEWORK: DD-1

Thursday 10/31 HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Students will play BINGO involving decimals, fractions, and unit rate. NO HOMEWORK

Friday 11/1 Quiz over decimals . Students will begin exploring solving proportions. HOMEWORK: P73

Lessons and Activities for October 7 – 18

Due to so many students not mastering the skill (adding and subtracting of fractions and mixed numbers), the lesson plans and activities have changed a bit this week. We have been working in class on word problems that incorporate fractions and mixed numbers. These problem solving activities along with several strategies that your student has learned these past few days will help conquer the state test. With that being said here are the new and improved lessons for the following weeks:

Wednesday 10/9 – Quiz over adding and subtracting fractions in a word problem setting. Students will begin practicing ratios.   HOMEWORK: 7.1 EXPLORING RATIOS

Thursday 10/10 – Simplifying ratios and unit rate (notes and practice) HOMEWORK: “WHY DID THE WRITER”

Friday 10/11 – Computer activities involving fractions, unit rate, and ratios                 NO HOMEWORK

Monday 10/14- Wednesday 10/16 Students will work on a project in class that compares grocery store circulars to: determine unit cost, compare prices on whole items, and discover which store(s) has the better deal and by how much. Computers will be used to locate these circulars. There will be daily homework assignments: Monday – Rewrite a recipe       Tuesday – Order of Operations     Wednesday – Fractions and Ratios

Thursday 10/17 – Quiz over ratios and rates. Students will begin writing and modeling decimals and place value. HOMEWORK: “HOW CAN YOU PREVENT”

Friday 10/18 – Comparing and ordering decimals activities and notes. HOMEWORK: P.24 and “WHAT DO GORILLAS EAT”

Activities and Lessons for 9/30-10/4

Monday- Students will learn to add and subtract mixed numbers HOMEWORK: “Which Italian Bug”

Tuesday- Students will continue to learn to add and subtract mixed numbers, however today they will have to solve equations with unlike denominators HOMEWORK: “TREES”

Wednesday- Students will make test corrections from last unit and prepare for tomorrow’s unit test which will cover all skills learned this 6 weeks. HOMEWORK: STUDY

Thursday – 6 week test

Friday – Universal Screener Math Test

Tues 9/17 TEK 6.1A The students are expected to compare fractions: Fraction Hunt Activity, Comparing Fraction notes, Equal fractions cut-out activity in notebook, HOMEWORK: Fraction Action 26 & 27

Wed 9/18 Reviewing 6.7A Order of operations using exponents, Convert Mixed fractions to improper fractions, Activity 5-6A,  TEK 6.1A Ordering and comparing Fractions, HOMEWORK: Order of Operations #2-18 even

Thurs 9/19 QUIZ on Order of operations, Convert Improper fractions into mixed  fractions, Activity 5-6B, Compare mixed and improper, HOMEWORK: Comparing Fractions 5-6C

Fri 9/20 QUIZ on FRACTIONS, Ordering fractions Notes, video: fraction practice (youtube). HOMEWORK: Ordering fractions p.1

Mon 9/23 Students will work on word problems that incorporate fractions and integers. Notes: Practice griddables. HOMEWORK: Write 5 word problems in composition book using the given numbers

Tues 9/24 Students will use several manipulatives to start adding and subtracting fractions. (Stations on adding and subtracting fractions) HOMEWORK: p. 391-392 worksheet LCM and GCF

Wed 9/25 Fraction Models TEKS 6.2A and 6.2B Modeling and solving addition and subtraction of fractions, Notes and examples on graph paper, practice 6-3A #12,14,16 together, HOMEWORK: finish Practice 6-3 

Thurs 9/26 Adding and subtracting  fractions notes and examples. HOMEWORK: Practice Adding and Subtraction of fractions

Fri 9/27 QUIZ adding and subtracting fractions, Computer activity: practicing fraction games HOMEWORK: Practice 6-5A

Mon 9/9 Students will use interactive video and quizzes to learn Greatest Common Factors (GCFs) TEK6.1E Homework: GCF C17

Tue 9/10 Students will use interactive games on the computer to practice GCF (Fruit Shoot). Notes on Least Common Multiple (LCM) TEK 6.1F. Quiz over GCF and Factors. HOMEWORK: LCM p.35

Wed 9/11 Review for Test over the following: exponents, factors, primes and composites, PEMDAS, LCM,GCF HOMEWORK: STUDY

Thurs 9/12 TEST

Fri 9/13 Students will construct a fraction foldable and learn fractions and figures TEK 6.4E HOMEWORK: Square Pizza and Subdividing Fractional Parts

Activities and Homework for 9/3 – 9/6

Tuesday 9/3 Students will use Order of Operations to solve word problems as a class. Introduction to Integers TEK 6.2C: Notes HOMEWORK: p.1 “Integers”

Wednesday 9/4 Students will continue to learn 6.2C Locating integers on a number line. The learner will also be expected to classify whole numbers, integers, and rational numbers using a visual representation. Today students will learn prime numbers and composites and apply them to order of operations (TEK 6.2A) using computers in the class room. HOMEWORK: C12

Thursday 9/5 Today students will use computers to explore factors and prime factorization (TEK 6.2A and 6.7A) HOMEWORK: “Factors 1-30” 

Friday 9/6 Students will continue to learn TEKS 6.2A,C and 6.7A. Activities include C15, Order of Operation Word Problems, and Factor Towers HOMEWORK: FINISH CLASS ACTIVITIES

Mon 8/26 Gather supplies, discuss expectations, and set up notebook

Tues 8/27 Students will design and sign a social contract to be displayed in the classroom. The last 25 minutes of class, the students will take an assessment of skills to determine placement in tutoring.

Wed 8/28 Students will begin exploring exponents 6.7A “Generate equivalent numerical expressions using order of operations, including whole number exponents and prime factorization” In class: notes and practice Homework: Exponents p.17

Thurs 8/29 Begin notes on 6.7A Order of Operations and Patterns in Numbers. In class: practice and model p.29 Homework: Order of Operations p. 22

Fri 8/30 Finish notes and practice for 6.7A. Handout: “Mental Plays” Quiz:Order of Operations. Homework: p.30 1-19 odd only
