Mon 9/12 (To review 8.5A,B,C) In groups, students will complete pages 3-15 in their workbook. HOMEWORK: Finish workbook p.3-15

Tues 9/13 Go over answers and grade the workbook. This activity is worth 2 daily grades. *Begin 8.5D,F Chemical Formulas- students will learn how to balance compound equations and identify common formulas. HOMEWORK: p.18 & 33

Wed 9/14 Lab: Reaction in a baggie- chemical and physical changes. Review balancing equations-Notes. HOMEWORK: p.34 & 35

Thur 9/15 Computer Lab: Periodic Table/Equations NO HOMEWORK

Fri 9/16 Notes and lab: 8.5E Chemical changes- floating potato, elephant’s toothpaste, and digestion HOMEWORK: p.19 & 27

Mon 9/19 (Go Outside) Notes: States of matter and Earth’s most abundant elements, Lab: Identify different matter, compounds, and mixtures HOMEWORK: p.25 & 35

First 3 weeks of school students will be learning about TEKS 8.4 and 8.5 A,B,C. These are the Nature of Science, Models of Atoms, The Periodic Table, and the Relationships Between Elements. The TEST will be Thursday September 8th.

M 8/22 collect materials, create social contracts, Science Taboo

T 8/23 Organize and set up science notebook, go over Lab Safety Contract and Nature Center Rules, discuss TEKS

W 8/24 Video Clip “trapped like caterpillars” and discuss the Nature of Science. Composition book p.3&4 science vocabulary

Th 8/25 Video Clips “The Farm of Tomorrow” and “Dexter’s Lab: Changes”. Notes: Changes in Science

F 8/25 Lab: Problem Solving- Using tools and materials in certain labs

M 8/29 Notes: Model of an atom comp book p.6-8. TEKS 8.5 A,B
HOMEWORK: atom model and worksheet p.15

T 8/30 VC “Pets Teach Science About Atoms”. Notes: Chem4kids.com models of atoms. Quiz: Atoms
HOMEWORK: Atomic basics worksheet

W 8/31 Atoms p.23 together. Group work: p.25 and create an atom out of marshmallows and gummy bears lab.
HOMEWORK: Create a nursery rhyme about an atom. You can use the “row row row your boat”, “twinkle twinkle”, or something like that. Must be in composition book p. 9

Th 9/1 Computer Lab: Periodic Table Activities. Drama: Act out attraction between atoms (ions and isotopes)
HOMEWORK: Atomic puns worksheet

F 9/2 Periodic Table Notes p.11-12. Group: Relationships among elements activity/graph worksheet p. 9-10.
